In nearly every Wonder Woman scene, Gal Gadot can be seen flawlessly executing endless superhero moves. But during the less action-packed moments of the film, Gal wows viewers with a few subtler tricks, one of which is currently taking the internet by storm. After — spoiler alert — Diana steals that blue gown and crashes the German army’s gala, a shot of her back reveals the stealthy way in which she snuck her sword into the event. She simply slid it down the back of her gown, with the handle resting on the garment’s back neckline like a decorative accent.
While the move looked natural for Gal, the internet set out to discover just how realistic it is (although in any movie about superheroes, the audience should know to suspend their disbelief). Would it be uncomfortable? Painful? Impossible to remove without ripping your dress? The internet had a lot of questions. So, a few fans decided to channel their inner Wonder Woman and try out the hack for themselves. People have been sharing photos and videos of themselves wearing dresses and hiding swords in their backs to Instagram with the hashtag #wwgotyourback, which currently yields over 100 posts.
Even though Diana stuck her sword down her back purely for function (when you’ve got to defeat Aries, you’ve got to defeat Aries), the look works for plenty of non-superheroes as well. But if you’re trying this at home yourself, maybe opt for a toy sword or a light saber? Nobody needs to be walking around in public with an actual weapon.
Meanwhile, one fan couldn’t get her hands on a sword (understandable), so she opted for a pool noodle. Nailed it.
