A summer’s weekend in Cornwall, filled with surfing and music. Sounds like a standard trip to the coast, right? Wrong. The annual Boardmasters Festival will take place from 9-13 August in Newquay and will see some of the world’s top professional surfers take on what the Atlantic Ocean has to throw at them, while a strong line-up of DJ’s and bands is also on the bill.
At the top of the music line-up, there’s Two Door Cinema Club, Jamiriquai and Alt-J. Delve a little deeper and there’s the likes of The Flaming Lips, The Vaccines and Stormzy. For those looking to dance until the wee hours, legends like Andy C, Armand Van Helden, Pete Tong and Roger Sanchez will be on-hand to keep the beat going.
We’re particularly excited about High Contrast, Ziggy Marley, Wild Beasts, Netsky, Pulled Apart By Horses – the list goes on. Oh, and rumour has it, the king of brunch parties, Norman Jay, is on the bill too. Always the ultimate hangover cure.
In addition to the eclectic and jam-packed bill, there will be acoustic campfire sessions, a Cornish market, surf lessons, morning yoga, and, of course, the chance to watch the surfing pros do their thing. You’ll find most of that action taking place down on Newquay’s famous Fistral Beach, where, in addition to the surfing competitions, skaters and BMXers will be putting on a show.
So, there you have it. It sounds like the ultimate summer party. Let’s just hope the Sun Gods are looking down favourably. Then again, it’ll make for some wild surf and, as a result, even more entertainment, if not.
We can’t wait! See you at the beach.
