Jenna Dewan Tatum Plays 20 (Fine, 11) Questions With Us

Interviewing celebrities at Fashion Week is a lot like speed dating—except the person in front of you is always absurdly attractive. Usually you’ve only got five minutes, which means you can’t waste a second on formalities. Time limits are strictly enforced, and once the timer goes off, another person is there and ready to swoop into your seat. In other words, you gotta get to the good questions fast.

So, when we caught up with Jenna Dewan Tatum at an event last night for Young Living Essential Oils (she’s the brand’s “guest scent curator” and, yes, the room smelled incredible), we came ready with our version of 20 Questions. We didn’t get through them all in the five minutes, 27 seconds we had, but we didn’t leave disappointed. Here, our speed (beauty) date with JDT. Oh, and sorry, Channing, but we’d love to hang out again.

Your new haircut is amazing. What’s your holy grail product?

Jen Atkin’s Ouai Wave Spray. I can’t live without it. I get out of the shower, I spray it in my hair, and I scrunch my ends up. That’s all I do with my hair, that’s how magical that product is. Sometimes I even use it on dry hair and scrunch. It gives you amazing waves and that cool piecey-ness.

What’s one beauty trend you’d never try?

I’d pretty much try anything, to be honest. I love experimenting with beauty. But if I had to say one thing, I don’t think I’d go back to the dark lip liner and light lipstick look. I put that one to bed a long time ago. But pretty much everything else, I’d be like, “Let’s try it!” and see how it would look.

What do you when you’re stressed out and need to unwind?

I grab lavender oil or cedar wood oil—or a combination of those with a tranquil blend—and slather them all over my body, from literally head to toe. I put them on the soles of my feet, my chest, I even diffuse it into my room.

What’s your favorite scent on Channing?

I like a cheesy cologne. He won’t wear it, but I like it. Like Curve. It’s so high school.

What emoji do you use the most?

The shocked/surprised face: 😳. It’s like, “Wut?”

What’s the next big thing you want to do to your hair?

I always play with color. But one of these days I want to go platinum blond. I’m just afraid it’s going to ruin my hair. It takes so long to get back to your base after that. Maybe I’ll wig it first. I’m seeing that that’s very popular.

Short or long blond wig?

I think a short, straighter bob would be really cute. You’ll see me on a red carpet soon and be like, Uh-huh, there she is.

If you had $20 and free roam of a drugstore, what would you buy?

Drugstore makeup! I’d experiment and buy as many different lip colors as I could.

What’s your go-to getting-ready song?

Beyoncé’s “Run the World.” I’m such a nerd throwback girl. You know how iPhone music gives you recommended music playlists? Mine are always full of nineties and early 2000s songs.

Screw, marry, kill beauty edition: mascara, lipstick, highlighter?

Kill highlighter, marry lipstick, screw mascara.

What’s one beauty product Channing always steals from you?

Every one of them. All my moisturizers. He secretly makes fun of me for having so many and then he uses them all.
