Hollywood Elite Manager Benny Medina is Accused of Attempted Rape
In an interview with The Advocate, actor Jason Dottley claims that he had been sexually assaulted by Medina while getting a tour of his house. Dottley says that it all began when he met the manager back in December 2008 at a West Hollywood bar. At the time, the Body Hair star had been accompanied at the bar by actor and friend T. Ashanti Mozelle. According to Dottley, Medina approached the two and invited them to his house. While he says that he was eager to network with Medina, Dottley said that he had sensed a connection between Medina and Mozelle. At that time, Dottley had been married to film director Del Shores.
After arriving at Medina’s house, he offered the pair a tour around the house and brought them to the swimming pool. According to Dottley, Mozelle stayed behind to swim while he continued his tour solo with Medina who showed him his living room, some photos of Medina with different celebrities, and eventually a bedroom.
“There was no ‘Do you want to see my bedroom? We literally got to the door and he grabbed me by the chest of my shirt and threw me onto his bed. Now I’m 6 foot tall and was 155 pounds, and this is a stocky strong man,” Dottley recounted to The Advocate. “We all have these things playing in our heads of what would we ever do if someone ever tried to do something, and none of my preplanned motions would work.”
In his accusation, Dottley alleges Medina stuck his tongue down his throat. He even mentions that he had pointed out to Medina that he was married, but that Medina became more aggressive during the encounter and allegedly demanding, “I’m having you! Oh, I will have you…”
Dottley said that Medina also had his arm pressed against his neck, and that he doesn’t have a clear memory if Medina ever touched his genitals, but that he does remember his pants getting pulled on by Medina.
Meanwhile, Mozelle sensed something was wrong with his friend and got out of the pool to look for him. It was then that he walked into the bedroom and found Medina on top of Dottley. “[Mozelle] burst in the room and screamed something like, ‘Get off him!’ I don’t remember [exactly] what he said, but whatever he said worked,” said Dottley. It was then that Medina got off of Dottley and kicked both Dottley and Mozelle out of his house.
A few days later, Dottley recalls receiving a text message from Medina, while out on a walk with his husband. “I get a text message as [Shores] and I were walking down Robertson Boulevard,” he said. “…it says something like: ‘Hey, I’m at The Ivy eating. Just saw you walking across the street. Is that the husband I have to have killed to have you?”
Dottley claims that he never told his now ex-husband about the incident as he feared retaliation. He also told The Advocate that he confided in his manager, Renee Bailey and told her about the attempted rape when he signed to her agency in April 2016. The Bailey Agency had put Medina’s name on a “no work” list for Dottley.
According to Refinery29, Medina’s attorneys have responded to the allegations with a statement, saying their client “categorically denies the allegations of attempted rape.”
