Build-a-Bear Workshop, that store in the mall your little one always wants to visit, had its first-ever Pay Your Age Day today, and chaos ensued.
The event, which invited people to create their own furry friends based on how many years they've been on Earth, drew huge crowds that many stores couldn't accommodate, leading to plenty of upset customers. As POPSUGAR reports, lines were up to seven hours long in some places, causing the company to put an end to the promotion early, out of safety concerns.
Build-a-Bear released a statement this afternoon pretty much saying they didn't expect the madness that took place at their stores today.
As damage control, Build-a-Bear distributed vouchers to guests who were on line. They are now also making vouchers available to Build-A-Bear Bonus Club members in the U.S. and Canada who log into their account by midnight on July 15, 2018. The vouchers will be honored through August 31, 2018.
The one-day promotion was originally supposed to introduce a new program that also incorporates the "pay your age" concept. As part of their year-long Count Your Candles birthday program, the company will let kids 14 and under “pay their age” for their new Birthday Treat Bear during their birthday month.
Though it's certainly sad that many parents and kids who braved the lines were eventually turned away, people on Twitter are making light of the situation. Below are 17 of the funniest tweets about the frenzy.
