In tragic news, former Olympic skier Bode Miller and his wife, professional beach volleyball player Morgan Beck, said their 19-month-old daughter Emeline Grier Miller died yesterday, after drowning in a neighbor’s pool.
“Our baby girl, Emmy, passed away yesterday,” they wrote Monday in an Instagram post. “We are beyond devastated.”
The family was attending a party at a neighbor’s home, when somehow the toddler ended up in the pool, TMZ Sports reports. Paramedics performed CPR and rushed her to a nearby hospital, but they were unable to revive her.
“Never in a million years did we think we would experience pain like this,” the couple wrote in the post, which also included photos of Emmy, as well as a video of her saying, “Hi Dada.”
The couple is expecting their third child, due in October, and frequently shared photos of Emmy next to her mom’s growing belly.
“Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten,” they continue. “Our little girl loved life and lived it to its fullest everyday.”
More than 2,000 children drown each year in the U.S., and in some states drowning is the leading cause of death for children under the age of 5.
