The LA Arts & Culture Weekly Review

Throughout history, societies and communities that embraced the arts often found themselves at the forefront of social and political change – decades ahead of those that have discouraged or diminished the role of the arts in their societies. Our rich history of social and political progress is due in no small part to the active and courageous artistic community that calls Southern California home. We hope that by highlighting the rising stars of our local art community on a weekly basis, we can help increase our community’s engagement with local art and the artists that devote their life to moving society forward.

Good morning 😃!! We’d like to introduce the new addition to our cup series, The K&R Tumblers. Thicker walls for better insulation, and a “roll-over” rim for that extra 👌. Check them out at A Summer Shop, at the K&R Studio. . 4171 Verdugo Rd Los Angeles, 90065

I love making cups. If you want a cup hit me up. I’m down for trades of goods or services. Otherwise $20 so long as I can make you whatever I want.

next ceramic batch is slowly coming out! tried out double dipping glazes for the two-tone look. also another peek of screenprinted apparel i've been working on for later this spring 🙂 making everything myself now is hard and slow but super worth it!

If @rebecca_sugerman is an example of what we can expect from #generationZ then we can rest assured that the world will be a better place than it is today. Rebecca is our summer associate- that is until cheer camp starts. She is an excellent ceramicist who has already been working with clay for a few years so when we proposed she teach our Young Adult Potters class on July 7th, she agreed on the condition that proceeds from the class be donated to @innercityarts. The future is bright my friends, but until then bring your young adults age 7-15 by for a 1 hour class this coming Saturday. Information is in the link. #potteryworkshop #youngadultworkshop #kidsnclay

Happy Thursday! I love being able to share videos of my process with you guys 😊 This is a wide cylindrical bowl. I'm debating if I want to keep it simple and just glaze the interior since the clay I'm using becomes beautiful deep brown after firing or if I want to do some carved patterns on the exterior since it is a perfect flat surface to use. Thoughts? 🤔

Making a bunch of planters this week on the wheel 😊 I weigh out balls of clay so they are all the same size and then throw each on a bat so I can easily take them off the wheel without distorting them. Then they will get trimmed and have holes punched in them before being fired in the bisque kiln.
