Homeless man found dead on Malibu beach was shooting victim

MALIBU — Authorities said Thursday that a homeless man found dead on a beach in Malibu had been shot, and his death is being investigated as a homicide.

The body of 42-year-old Miguel Guardado was discovered about 4 p.m. Monday on the 25600 block of Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities had indicated preliminarily that no foul play was suspected in the death. However, an autopsy determined that Guardado had been shot in the upper body, and it prompted a homicide probe, the sheriff’s department reported.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
