Gregory Brandt, 33, was arrested on suspicion of killing the 5-week-old infant and Jasmine Rugga, 27, was arrested on suspicion of willful child endangerment, according to jail records.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that the investigation started Jan. 26 after the girl’s death. She died after her parents brought her from their residence on the 2800 block of Avenida Marbella in Menifee to a local hospital, where she was declared dead after medical staff were unable to resuscitate her.

“Evidence surfaced in the following days that led Menifee investigators to believe foul play was involved in the infant’s death,” the statement said.
