Man dies after apparent leap from Van Buren Boulevard overpass of 215 Freeway

A man who apparently leaped from the Van Buren Boulevard bridge to the southbound lanes of the 215 Freeway near Moreno Valley has died of his injuries, authorities said.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley station answered a report of man trying to jump off the bridge shortly before 10 a.m., a statement said.

When they arrived, the man was on the freeway pavement, and had suffered major injuries.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died. The location of the incident is a county area just north of Riverside National Cemetery and east of March Air Reserve Base and Moreno Valley.

The California Highway Patrol called a SigAlert for the area until it could be cleared.

The man will not be identified until relatives are notified, deputies said.
