Rialto man suspected of kidnapping pregnant ex-girlfriend detained; woman found safe

Fontana police tracked down and detained a Rialto man Friday morning who allegedly kidnapped his pregnant ex-girlfriend Thursday night. She was found safe and unharmed, according to authorities.

As of 5:30 a.m. Friday, March 15, it wasn’t clear if Nicholas Hernandez, 20, of Rialto had been arrested for the reported crime.

A Fontana police officer was in the area of the 9800 block of Pepper Avenue around 6:30 p.m., when several people flagged him down to tell him Hernandez had just forced his pregnant ex-girlfriend into the back of his vehicle and drove off, officials said.

Witnesses and family members told the officer the victim was screaming “Let go!” as she was forced into the black 2010 Nissan Altima.

The witnesses identified the former boyfriend as Hernandez.

Police were able to find Hernandez and the victim but didn’t release where or how they were found. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
