Man breaks into Pomona home, assaults resident, surrenders 2 hours later, police say

A man police described as “disoriented” broke into a Pomona home Saturday evening, struck the homeowner over the head with a glass floor scale and them locked himself in the house after the homeowner escaped, authorities said.

The man surrendered after nearly two hours of negotiations. Cameron McGee, 29, of Pomona was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and residential burglary, police said in a news release.

The department’s crisis negotiators, officers Megan Gonzalez and Zane Holmes, were called to the home in the 1200 block of Bayport Circle in the city shortly after the incident was reported at 6:41 p.m., the release said.

Officer Gonzalez was able to speak to the suspect through a broken window, and after face-to-face talks she convinced him to leave the house through the front door, where he was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Pomona police ask anyone with information on the case to contact the department at 909-620-2085. Anonymous information can be left at 1-800-222-8477.
