WHITTIER — Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies Wednesday were pursuing a suspect in a dark-colored SUV in the Whittier area. The suspect had been driving through the Rose Hills cemetery about 4:45 p.m., and drove onto a grass embankment to avoid spike strips. The chase later moved out of the cemetery. NBC4 reported the vehicle may be stolen.
NBC4 reported that the chase started near Pioneer Boulevard and Workman Mill Road. The SUV drove slowly through the Rose Hills cemetery with several police vehicles trailing it.
The West Covina Police Department later took over in the pursuit as the driver headed into that city.
The chase led up San Gabriel Canyon Road, into the mountains. The suspect drove on the wrong side of a metal guard rail into a narrow and grassy area and came to a stop at around 5:30 p.m.
